Kelly House Devon

Kelly House is a grade I listed manor house and real estate located in the village of Kelly in Devon England. The estate has been the property of the Kelly family since approximately 1100. Parts of the original medieval manor house and great hall are still standing, though they are obscured from view, as this part of the house was significantly remodeled in the Tudor architectural style. The most recent north wing of Kelly House was built in 1877. During the twentieth century parts of the estate were sold off, and the house fell into disrepair.

Today, Kelly House continues to be inhabited by members of the Kelly family who own and use the estate as a private dwelling. A WESTCOUNTRY manor house is to be featured on Channel 4's Country House Rescue program in the hope of generating much needed income for its restoration project.

Sophia Kelly, a member of the 32nd generation of the Kelly family to occupy the house, we are constantly looking for ideas to raise money for the house and prevent it from being sold. Kelly House has a series of long associations; there has been a house there for over 900 years, it has been the seat of the Kelly family for that entire time, and, sadly, has been on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk Register for over five years. Now the latest twist in the real estate is that the house will feature in Channel 4’s ‘Country House Rescue’ on Thursday 1 April when expert Ruth Watson offer possible solutions which will help the Kelly family remain in their ancestral home.

Kelly House is exactly the sort of house which the Historic Buildings Councils would have provided grants for when they were set up in the 1950s. The museum shows practical displays of restoration and conservation techniques of historical buildings, as well as showing the exposed older architectural elements of the house that are normally covered from view.
